BASKETBALL – SCIENCE – SHOT ALIGNMENT Scientific Shot Alignment: If you are a right-handed shooter,
your right foot should be lined up with the target. If you happen to be
a left handed shooter, then your left foot should be in proper alignment
with the target. This is in so far as front foot is concerned. In so far as the back foot is
concerned, the toe of the back foot should be in line with the heel of
the front foot. The back foot should be 12 to 15 inches apart from the
foot aligned with the shooting hand.
If you want to balance at the time
of shooting, back foot is used. Then knees. Knees are needed for
jumping, more so if you are very near the basket. The elbow of the hand
that shoots should always be in alignment with the shooting front foot.
The power comes from the wrist, which pushes the basketball up on the
planned trajectory so that the ball traverses its flight in the planned
manner and lands into the basket and comes out. Only the shooting hand
is involved. The other hand is normally utilized for balancing purposes.
All your fingers in the shooting hand spread wide and touching lightly
but firmly the ball. Ø Scientifically, if you jump high while shooting, your eyes focus on the rim, which helps you in sending the ball on a correct trajectory into the basket. |
